I have recently watched a movie entitled “Miss Hokusai.” This movie is an anime film that tells a story of the daughter of Katsushika Hokusai. I enjoyed the film greatly, and would have even liked it to have been slightly longer. It’s an informative yet enjoyable movie, with elements of humor. I felt as if it dealt with subjects that are generally not expressed in such movies, which I greatly appreciated. Kudos to Jitsugyo No Nihon Sha for making such a brilliant film.

This movie tells the story of O-Ei Hokusai, the daughter of Katsuhika Hokusai, a great artist. Hokusai is most known for his painting entitled “The Wave.” O-Ei was also a learning artist, and helped her father on some of his paintings. Due to her father's fame, however, she was ignored. Her father did not believe that her paintings were good, and therefore she did not get credit for her work on his paintings. One of the paintings she assisted him in making was given away, and the owner became scared of it because it was believed to be haunted. O-Ei has a younger sister, Onao, who was born blind. Because of her blindness, she was put in a place where should could constantly be looked after. O-Ei treats her sister very kindly and assists her when she can. This movie also tells parts of Onao’s story. This movie tells of all the pitfalls and great joys that O-Ei encounters throughout her young adulthood.

I believe that the voice actors in this movie did an excellent job. Their acting skills added to the movies overall brilliance. There were some scenes in which the talking didn’t quite match the speed at which their lips were moving, but it was dubbed. I believe that the moral could have to do with expressing your own creativity and making sure that you are being authentically yourself, no matter what the circumstances are. I think this movie will assist in helping others find that if they are overshadowed by someone, that their talent is just as valid as the other person’s.
